Body Found at Emu Bay. On Saturday morning last it was reported at Kingscote that the body of a man bad been washed up on the beach at Emu Bay, about a mile to the north of Mr J. Hall's residence.
Acting-coroner R. L. Barrett, Esq., J.P. and M.C. Cogan, proceeded to Emu Bay and examined the body. Indications pointed to suicide, four strands of fishing line being found tightly tied round the neck, and the loose end had a loop as if a stone had been attached. Messrs H. F. Bates (a brother) and H. E. Whittle identified the body as that of Ephriam Stean Bates, of Emu Bay. Owing to the advanced stage of decomposition the remains were buried close to where found. The verdict returned was that deceased came to his death by suicide from drowning while of an unsound mind.

Kingscote. March 15. On Saturday Mr. F. Bates discovered the dead body of a man which had been washed up on the Emu Bay beach. It was in a very bad state of decomposition. The matter was reported to Mr. R. L. Barrett, who ordered the burial of the body. It is believed to be the body of Mr. E. Bates, who had been wandering about the district for some time.
