Mika - the cat who adopted us

In August 2015, we started noticing the food bowls were empty in the mornings, something Cloudy and Sunny didn't do.
Then we started hearing loud eating and sounds of a cat running out of the house.
Eventually we got a photo of him in the kitchen and on the driveway at night.

On the RSPCA website there was a lost animal service listing a photo that possibly was him, and we called the owner. His name was Mika. She was delighted and came and took him home. However he was back a few days later, and this happened a few times. This was from a street about 2.5km away on the other side of a busy road and a creek (with a few bridges). Eventually we adopted him.

While we didn't have fights, it was clear that cats were unhappy sharing food bowls and we ended up with 3 food bowls.

Mika was able to find hiding spots our other cats haven't. For example, we had a light weight wardrobe in the guest bedroom that was zippered cloth hung on a metal frame. First he managed to jump on top of it, and it sagged under his weight to make him invisible if you look at it. Then he manage to open the zipper a little and crawl inside and on to the top shelf inside the wardrobe. Wardrobe is of course destroyed as a result.

Mika was one of the biggest muscular cats we have had, though very gentle. He particularly likes beds. However in his old age, he is becoming thin and frail. So a soft bed is even more important. gargoyle Mika
