Southwood, Warrego Shire

Address: Southwood is on Southwood Road where it meets the Moonie River. The road runs between Moonie Highway and Surat Developmental road. On the Moonie Highway halfway between Moonie and Westmar, Southwood road heads north (opposite the road to Ripple Downs.
Since Southwood was on north bank of river, come west on Old Moonie Road for 38 km. This starts just north of where Leichardt Hway crosses Moonie River (13.5km north of Moonie). Southwood road crosses Old Moonie Road (at the 38km), but looks like dirt road or maybe washed out creek. A little bit east looks like a forest track. From The Old Moonie Rd to Southwood site looks 2km.
Better still, about 37 km west is Apelts Rd which runs down the eastern side of town. Stay west of the ford across the Moonie River.
By the 1960s, the only thing remaining in the town was the gravestone of Amelia, the wife of Constable Boyle, who died in 1891.
(The police reserve is south-west of town, but still north of the river).

Opened: approx. 1891
# graves: 1
