In the death of Mrs Eliza Sellars, which took place at Harrisville early yesterday morning, the Rosevale district lost one of its pioneers. Her husband, the late Mr Joseph Sellars, died many years ago. The late Mrs Sellars, who was 80 years of age, came to Queensland in the year 1864, in the ship Golden Dream, from Queenstown, Ireland. She arrived ar Moreton Bay in May, and soon after her arrival was married to Mr Sellars. For some years the couple lived at Moggill. In 1876, Mr Sellars selected land at Rosevale, and the removed there shortly afterwards. In 1877, when a big drought visited the land, Mrs Sellars assisted in carting pumpkins from Moggill over the ferry to Rosevale, and conveyed bran to that centre, and thus kept 24 cows alive. Mr Sellars kept a small store at Rosevale, and the family also kept the Post Office for a number of years. In 1893 Mr and Mrs Sellars had a trip to England, Ireland and Scotland returning to Rosevale. About two years later Mr Sellars died. The late Mrs Sellars continued to reside at Rosevale for a few years, but about 14 years ago she removed to Pine-street North Ipswich, where she lived for a number of years. She sold her property and went to Harrisville to live with her daughter, Mrs T Cross, Harrisville, where she remained till her death. The late Mrs Sellars leaves a grown-up family of eight daughters and five sons. The sons are -- Cr R Sellars, Rosewood; Messrs George Sellars, Rosevale; William Sellars, Corinda; Herb Sellars, Beaudesert; and Ben Sellars, Coochin Coochin. The daughters are all married and settled in various parts of the State. The funeral will take place at the Rosevale Cemetery to-day.
