trained at Edinburgh University.
Assistant Medical Superintendent, Gladesville Asylum, Sydney.
Medical Superintendent of Asylums and Inspector of Hospitals of Insane, served at Goodna Asylum, Queensland.
Richard and daughter Edith both buried in Asylum's Private Cemetery, approximately two miles from Asylum where he had worked.
Son of Joseph Scholes, Gentleman and Sarah Rylance (informant Joseph Scholes, brother of Armidale).
Edith Mary Battersby Scholes 29 December 1884 - 10 September 1897 was the daughter of Richard Battersby Scholes and his wife Jane Alice (nee Burn).
Jane Alice Scholes is buried at Toowoomba (died February 1923).
