The College was established as a day school in 1902 at the request of the late Fr. Comerford and for many years it was the only Primary and Secondary School in the town. When the population began to decline rapidly the late Dean E. O'Keeffe conceived the idea of a boarding school for North Queensland with the result that M t. Carmel was opened in 1916 as the pioneer boardi1ng school for boys in the Towelrs. For nearly fifty years the Christian Brothers have laboured in Charters Towers for the cause of Catholic education and thousands of successful ex students look back with gratitude to Mt. Carmel where their early years of education were spent. Address Applications for Enrolment to : THE PRINCIPAL Box 138, Charters Towers
