Ron began his IT career in 1977 as an engineer with mainframe vendor ICL. He has a broad range of experience including digital electronics and hardware design, software development, sales and senior management, working in Australia and overseas. He has a Bachelor of Applied Science (with Distinction), a Bachelor of Computing with First Class Honours and is a Member of the IEEE.
He has been a regular speaker at the Australian IT conferences, presenting papers on Software Engineering topics and Object Oriented Design and Programming. He is the designer of "RCOS", a message driven, micro-kernel operating system used to demonstrate and teach operating system theory.
This system was presented in a refereed paper to the 1994 Apitite (Asia Pacific Information Technology in Training and Education) conference. A follow on paper for the IEEE Operating System SIG publication was presented in 1995.
During the period 1983 to 1986, Ron was CEO for the software distributor ARCOM Pacific. In this position he regularly gave presentations to both small and large groups and received special training in Public Relations and the media from Burston-Marstella.
Since 1988, Ron has specialised in software engineering and Object Oriented Analysis, Design and Programming. He has extensive, practical working knowledge of UML and its antecedents, plus broad, pragmatic experience in Product Development and the dynamics of both new and mature teams. From 1997, he has focused on Java based solutions and currently presents DSTC's public and in-house Java training courses which he revised to cover J2SE, Swing, J2EE and JVM security.
His research interests are software engineering practice, operating systems and automated testing of object oriented systems.
