To convert a Word document to HTML:
1. Open it
2. Do File / Save As and select "HyperText Markup Language"
from the format pick list.

Additional_Info : I am using Internet Assistant for Word (version ??)
on my Mac for authoring the repository documentation and
various web pages such as the travel tips suite.
Note: It is integrated into Word - if Word recognises
a doc. as being html, @§„it fires up Internet Assistant
which treats the doc. like a Word doc., mostly, but
you get styles that are mapped to HTML formatting
commands and the doc. looks vaguely like it will
with your browser.
My comments on Internet Assistant are:
o on the whole it is very useful and allows fairly
easy creation & maintenance of html docs.
o conversion of Word docs to html & subsequent
maintenance of the html version is reasonably
good as long as the styles in the original are
"sensible" and there are not too many odd style
overrides.
It handles diagrams by converting them to gif and
writing them to a separate file; I had some trouble
with some diagrams (notably the title "banners" we
use for web pages - I think it is a Frame to rtf
oddity that causes the colours to be scrambled or
whatever)
o Internet Assistant imposes some html "rules" that
I think are unreasonable, but you get to live
with them/devise workarounds. One of the
annoyances in this area is that if you close a
doc then reopen it can look different, 'cos
IA has "cleaned it up".
o I have a problem that I can't use Word at all if
my monitor is not plugged in to my Powerbook; i.e.
I can't use it at home (unless I load Word 5
instead).
