Hoop pine planting by the Rafting Ground Pullenvale Scout Group


this hoop pine tree was planted on 3 september 1988 by his excellency,
the honourable sir Walter Campbell, AC,QC,
governor of Queensland
as part of a bicentennial project undertaken by
The Rafting Ground Pullenvale Scout Group
with the co-operation of the Brisbane City Council
to reafforest this area with hoop pine which was particulkarly plentiful and highly sought after by local timber getting pioneers in the 1860s and 1870's,
5000 hoop pine trees were planted in the project, 200 in this reserve where the Rafting Ground Scout Group had its first meeting in 1965 and from which it took its distinctive name.
In future years these trees will be a unique living testimony to the history of this area.
